Julia Vieland, Pianist

Julia Vieland started piano lessons at the age of 5 with Dorothea Zacharias. Julia studied exclusively with Ms. Zacharias until she became a scholarship student of Dr. Frank Shaw, dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She received her BA degree from Queens College and went on to study with Frank Sheridan at the Mannes School of Music. Other artist/teachers were Alexander Lipsky and Walter Hautzig.

Julia Vieland, PianistAt sixteen Julia was selected to perform on the NYC Young American Artist radio series, subsequently giving numerous solo and chamber music concerts in New York and Philadelphia.

Her rare teaching ability has garnered many dedicated students. Ms. Vieland is a long standing member of the Music Teachers National Association as well as the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Northern Delaware Valley branches.

Julia's Inspiration? Her Grandchildren!

Originally from Chicago, Vieland was born into a musical family, both parents being professional musicians. Her father, Joseph Vieland, was a solo violist giving recitals in Chicago and becoming a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Gordon String Quartet, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He also edited viola music for International Music Company. Her mother, Fira Vieland, was a concert pianist and teacher. Joseph and Fira frequently performed in recitals together.

Coming from a family of musicians, Julia considered how best to leave a musical legacy of high quality and permanence. What better choice than recording her grandchildren’s favorite classical compositions?

And so the CD JULIA'S GIFT was born. Since its production, JULIA'S GIFT has taken on a life of its own with five star (*****) reviews by music professionals.
