Out and About with Julia's Gift The Fall 2007 Issue of the Philadelphia Music MakersMagazine, includes an article written by Julia, entitled, “Presser Heritage Fosters Music at Cathedral Village.
On Monday July 17th, 2007 The Philadelphia Music Station, WRTI aired
the Twelve Variations on the theme “Ah, Vous Dirai –Je Maman”,(better
known as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) from Julia’s
CD, “Julia’s Gift. They also played the Beethoven Rondo from
her disc, at an earlier date. At the May 12th 2007 concert, the last of the season for the Matinee Musical Committee,( held this time in Cathedral Hall) ,Julia and Elsie Storck performed the Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens, for four hands with Ted Shakespeare reciting the Ogden Nash verses.

On January 28th, 2007 Julia performed a program of works for cello and piano with cellist, Gael Abassi, in the Presser Lounge at Cathedral Village. They played a set of 12 variations by Beethoven, The Sonata in D minor by Shostakovich, The Swan by Saint- Saens, Piece Enforme DeHabanera by Ravel, concluding with the second movement of Prokofieff’s Sonata n C Major. Op 119.
On November 8th , 2006 Julia shared a program with The Meany/Simmons Duo. The occasion was a Benefit Concert for the Philadelphia Music Makers, a magazine for classical music lovers. She played the Bach” Italian Concerto”, Debussy,”Reflets dans l’eau”, and Ravel “Jeux d’eau”
On September 30th, 2006 Julia opened the Memorial Concert for the well loved teacher, Carol Cahn, with Bach’s Andante from the Italian Concert. The concert was presented by the Northern Delaware Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association with the support of the Cunningham Piano Company who provided a magnificent Bosendorfer piano and the space for the concert.
In September of 2006, Julia gave a solo recital of works by Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Debussy and Ravel in the Presser Lounge at Cathedral Village, repeating this program the following month for the residents of Bishop White Lodge in the Rose Room.
In January, 2006, the Matinee Musicale Committee of Cathedral Village was formed by residents Julia Vieland and Rosetta Goodkind. The purpose is to give residents , their family members and friends the opportunity to perform for each other. The Committee has produced nine concerts to date with four more to go in the 2007-08 season.
Julia's Gift has been featured on Comcast Cable CN 8 "Seeking Solutions with Suzanne"-. a program on leaving creative, unusual legacies. Suzanne introduced the CD then read Julia's dedication against a back -ground of music from the CD as the camera moved through numerous family photos-a beautiful presentation.
Julia's Gift has been purchased by the Free Library of Philadelphia for distribution in area libraries. |
